CEO, Principal Engineer, Grounded Technical Solutions Ltd.
Calgary, Alberta

Joshua Daniel, P.Eng., SMIEEE, is the Founder, CEO and Principal Engineer of
Grounded Technical Solutions Ltd., a boutique advisory, consulting and engineering firm
serving clients across North America. A Senior Member of the IEEE and voting member
of NERC’s Large Load Working Group, Joshua works at the intersection of power
systems, large-load growth and energy infrastructure, helping data centres, power
generation developers and other energy-intensive projects navigate the technical,
commercial and regulatory challenges between concept and energization.

Joshua has contributed to the development, design and engineering of more than 2,000
MW of power generation capacity, along with transmission and distribution
infrastructure. His expertise includes power system studies, grid connection, site
selection for generation facilities and data centres, financial modelling, detailed
engineering, and startup and commissioning. His broader project experience includes
oil refineries, gas production facilities and the BC LNG project.

Joshua is particularly interested in the challenge of meeting rapidly growing electricity
demand while maintaining grid reliability, affordability and speed to market. He brings a
hands-on, people-focused approach to complex multidisciplinary projects, bridging
engineering, commercial strategy and regulatory requirements from the boardroom to
field operations.

Joshua advocates for the responsible use of AI and sustainable energy solutions.
Driven by a deep interest in root-cause analysis, he studies grid reliability events and
blackouts to understand their causes and develop practical measures that reduce the
risk of recurrence.

Joshua graduated from the University of Windsor and lives in Alberta, Canada, with his
family. Outside of work, he enjoys travel, exploring the Rocky Mountains, classical
music, motorsports, staying active and supporting his children in their activities.
